Spanish: Vocabulario de Otoño (Fall Vocabulary)

In Spanish, we started with a bilingual rap. We would tap our laps and go, "one, two, three, four, uno, dos, tres, cuatro." Then we'd stand up, dance and go, "dance, baila, dance, baila, etc." Then we went, "clap, aplaude," "turn around, da vueltas." Everyone had fun, especially with the free dance part.
Then we reviewed everything that we have been learning.

Afterwards, we did our Fall activity, reviewing the colors and introducing Fall vocabulary.

~ La calabaza anaranjada: the orange pumpkin
~ El maíz rojo: the red corn
~ El gato negro: the black cat
~ La paja amarilla: the yellow hay
~ La vaina verde: the green ivy

As you see, we used all Fall colors and Fall objects. We also talked about how in English we say the article (a or the), then the color and finally, the noun. In Spanish, we say the article, then the noun and lastly, the color. 

I printed these ahead of time on regular letter-sized paper. We traced the pictures with preschool pencils and then then colored them with crayons, markers and colored pencils.

Spanish Activity #2: Los Colores de Otoño Son... (The Colors of Fall Are...)

Today, we reviewed everything that we have learned in Spanish, sang songs, signed, etc. We practiced our colors and discussed Fall colors (in Spanish, of course). Then we made the Fall color craft. Everyone did really well and we had fun. It is incredible to see how the kids' writing is getting better and better.

For this craft, you need (per child):

~ construction paper (one white, red, orange, yellow, brown)

~ glue stick

~ scissors

~ markers

         

Steps:

1. Help child cut a 3-inch strip out of these four sheets of construction paper: yellow, orange, red and brown.

2. Out of each strip, help child cut 2 inches. You will end up with a 2x3" rectangle.

3. Cut little frills on the narrower side of the rectangle (see pictures).

4. Glue the rectangles to the edge of the white sheet of construction paper.

5. On the white, child writes:

    ~ her name in the corner of the page

    ~ "Los Colores de Otoño son" in big, bold letters

    ~ If she is a good writer, she can write all four colors  next to the corresponding rectangle themselves. If not, help her write "amarillo" next to the yellow, "anaranjado" next to the orange, "rojo" next to the red and "café" next to the brown.
