Cursive Practice (sort of)

This is an awesome printables packet from 3 Dinosaurs. And it is FREE!

K had been showing a lot of interest in cursive and can read it now, so I asked some blogger friends for resources. Cassie responded with this. Wow. How amazing! That very evening, I printed it all off and put it together, even the dice.

The next day, during homeschool, I presented K with it and he loved it, but once he tried to write in cursive a little bit (after begging me to teach him how to write cursive), he said he didn't feel it was time yet. Sigh. Ok. That is what I had thought, but since he insisted so much, I didn't want his interest to wane. So it is there, in our homeschool room, looking all pretty, waiting for the day K wants to give it a go again. Thank you, Cassie! :)

Fun with the computer.

I cannot believe I did this! I bought the creamer with the flavor of my favorite girl scout cookies. It is delicious.

Spanish: La Familia

We sang Hola, Hola on our karaoke machine in English and Spanish. Then we worked on "La Familia." El papá, la mamá, el hermano, la hermana, el bebé. We sang a family song and made the lapbook section on siblings.

Happy birthday, baby girl! She is two now and she is such a blessing to us! We love her!

Science Experiments Class

In science this month we have learned about the brain and nervous system - 3 parts of the brain, how the brain stem works, coordination, hemispheres, nerves. 
We also learned about cells - basic building blocks, working together as a team and identifying different cells - this was met with an experiment - the kids loved it
Today we will be learning about why our arms swing (M. is curious and it goes back to the parts of the brain lesson). 
We will then move on to learn about our ears with a few experiments and hopefully I'll remember to take pictures! 

Homeschooling Journal: January 2014 Part 4

This is what we did in our homeschool during the middle and towards the end of January 2014.

Soccer Season

K is doing so much better this year. Last year, he had just turned 3 when he started. He wasn't very interested, he didn't understand the game very well and he felt a bit out of sorts because he was the youngest one in the group (ages 3-5). This year, he is loving it so much and doing much better. He still hasn't scored any goals, but at least he is running in the right direction, haha!

Spanish Lessons for Preschoolers and Kindergartners (Part 2)

Here, you will see lessons on: Colors, Shapes, Fall, Greetings and Vocabulary

I am currently teaching Spanish and French in our homeschool co-op (ages 1-5) and additionally Mandarin Chinese to my children.
The only thing I stress is that I make sure they notice and know which language we are working on at the time. They switch gears rather easily and do very well. Even those who do both French and Spanish with me (on different days) haven't had a problem. I haven't thought of a strategy on how to teach languages to youngsters because I haven't really encountered the need to have one.
My 2 year old was mixing letters. She knew all the letters in the alphabet in both English and Spanish, but she'd say some in English and some in Spanish. She is now getting better at differentiating them a bit more. Hope this helps.
