Homeschooling Journal: March 2014 Part 1

What a great weekend we had! First, it rained on Saturday (which we don't get very often) and second, we had a fun Mardi Gras party on Sunday.

Ballet and Gym

In Ballet, we warmed up and started practicing the songs for our presentation. Date TBD. They are doing great!

French: Numbers 1-10

In French, we practiced our numbers 1-10 and made the individual cards for each with the numeral, the number word in French and a picture representing the number on the card.

Art: Caterpillars and Spiders out of Egg Cartons

This past week in art we did a just for fun craft and made caterpillars and spiders. The kids got to put their design skills to the test and seemed to have a lot of fun doing so.

Listen and Obey, Listen and Obey, Listen and Obey

Left and Right Craft

Materials Needed:

- 5 or 6 images of objects facing left

- 5 or 6 images of objects facing right

- scissors

- glue

- 2 pieces of construction paper or any kind of paper

Steps:

1. Cut out all the pictures of the objects facing left and right. These images can be printed off from the internet or cut out of newspaper or magazines.

2. Determine with the child which paper is left (the one on the left) and which is right (the one on the right). Write "Left" on the upper part of the paper that is on the left and "Right" on the paper that is one the right. I also helped him by drawing an arrow pointing left (on the left paper) and one arrow pointing to the right (on the paper that is right).

3. Look through all the pictures and together, determine which ones go on the left (because they are facing left) and which ones go on the right (because they are facing right). As you sort through, all the ones facing left are placed on the paper that is on the left and the objects facing right are placed on the paper that is on the right.

4. Now, it is time to glue them on the right papers.

5. Proudly display. :)

Spanish: Mis Cosas Favoritas (My Favorite Things)

We sang the numbers song in Spanish using sign language.

Steps:

1. Take a white sheet of construction paper, fold it into three columns (making it a tryptic).

2. With a marker, trace lines over the folds.

3. Use a Spanish book with color words in Spanish. 

4. Ask children to pick their favorite colors.

5. On the first column of the white paper, write "Mi color favorito es______." That means "My favorite color is____."

6. Write their favorite color on the line and they color something in that space with their favorite color.

7. In a Spanish book, find a page with shapes in Spanish.

8. Ask children to pick their favorite shape.

9. On the second column of the white paper, write "Mi forma favorita es ____." It means "My favorite shape is ____."

10. Underneath, they draw their favorite shape.

11. In a Spanish book, find a page with the number words in Spanish.

12. Ask children to pick their favorite number.

13. On the second column of the white paper, write "Mi número favorito es ____." It means "My favorite number is ____."

14. Underneath, they write their favorite numeral and draw something that shows that number (for two, they can draw two frogs or two hats or two children, etc).

Isn't this a beautiful thing to include in our homeschool?

We always prayed in our homeschool, but it was always with a mental list of people and things to pray for. So we decided to type up a prayer list for every day of the week. It was great collaborating with each other. We got a pretty nice list.
