Some of Our Favorite Fall Books

Fall is definitely our favorite season. We love the weather, the season change, the leaves falling, the cinnamon smells, the pumpkin flavors, the celebrations... in other words, we love everything!
To make Fall even more special, we go to our local library to pick some seasonal books. Every year, without fail, we are able to add more books to our "Fall Favorites" list. Here are some that made it on the list. We are only showing you the ones that we absolutely loved and enjoyed reading together.

Autumn Harvest by Alvin R. Tresselt

What we loved about this book is that it is a bit old-fashioned. The illustrations are beautiful and they story is both entertaining and informative. 

Fall is Not Easy by Marty Kelley

This story had both a humorous and a deeper touch. It was a wonderful read and it inspired a very good talk about change and what change means and how we are to regard change.

    

Pioneer Days: Discover the Past with Fun Projects, Games, Activities, and Recipes by David C. King 

This is a GREAT book! It doesn't have a storyline, per se, but it does have many early pioneerholiday traditions (not just Fall) and it provides detailed explanantions and how-tos of these traditions from long ago. Some of them are still used today and others were brand new to us. We especially took note of some of the recipes. They looked delicious!

 

  Johnny Appleseed by Steven Kellogg

We were able to get this awesome book in the largest print possible: a BIG book! The children really enjoyed looking at the rather large images. The illustrations are phenomenal and the story is very entertaining, too.

Pick a Circle, Gather Squares: A Fall Harvest of Shapes by Felicia Sanzari Chernesky

This is Sister's favorite pick of the bunch. We thoroughly enjoyed looking for the hidden shapes in the illustrations. They did a wonderful job with the way it was written and the illustrations were fun.

Fall Ball by Peter McCarty

Needless to say, this was Brother's Favorite pick out of our Fall books. He is in Flag Football right now and well, this book definitely caught his attention. He read it over and over and when it was time to return it to the library, he asked if we could check it out again.

 

Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown

This is not a Fall book, of course, but it is our all-time favorite bedtime story. Since we found the BIG book version of it at the library and brought it home with us, we wanted to share this one with you, too. What do we love about it? The rhyme, the rhythm, the simplicity of it, the illustrations, the winding down feeling it gives toward the end of the story.

We hope that you enjoyed learning about some of these unknown or not-as-popular titles that are a lot of fun to read. We enjoyed having them at home and will definitely revisit them during this Fall season. What are some of your favorite Fall titles?
